Republic India turns a Senior Citizen today - We celebrate our 60th Republic Day

We have come a long way in the Last 60 years of being republic and almost 63 years of Independence. From being a country out/or still in a state of a turmoil, perceived buy many as a poor country not capable of standing on its own feet to now being called the rising power, a rising economy with one of the highest Growth Rates in any democratic country.

The big question in most our minds is where will INDIA be in the next decade. Will it go into retirement and grow slower or Grow with vigor to a Industrialized country competing if not beating the other economies. Not continue to be called a developing county but a Developed one. Practice Equality and up-liftment of the poor not by communist means but using good governmental scheme and policies as powerful tools. Creating a Ideal country incorporating the good virtues of Communist China and the Liberal America. In today's era where Cloud computing, need based processing / resources is in, its about time we moved away from Caste Based politics and reservation to move into a need based model. Its about time we stop Discriminating people on on basis of caste, these caste based reservation only acts as a Discrimination Tool.

Visiting Gorur Ramaswamy Iyengar's Gorur

Many know Gorur Ramaswamy Iyengar as a freedom fighter, And many others know him as a writer of his famous book "Amerikadalli Goruru" but he holds a special place in my heart for his book "Namma Oorina Rasikaru".
When my friend suggested that we go to his native Gorur, Although the name ringed a bell somewhere in the corner of my mind, My conception was still of a laid back village in the outskirts of Hassan. Even when the Name of Gorur Ramaswamy Iyengar came up in the conversations when I was there or when this house was pointed out to me, it did not strike me even once of the connection. It only strikeed me in my sleep today :) (Even after years Indians remember the Name of hero's and heroines of popular films but not the name of the directors)

Gorur Ramaswamy iengar a good book

I was introduced to this book, "Namma Oorina Rasikaru". almost a Decade ago thanks to our Education System (I had very limited exposure to Kannada book / literature in the Educational framework in which I studied),Only a handful, 3 to be exact choose to study this book. With my command over the language not being good, any book would have been ideally forgotten
and buried for good but this book was still holds a place in my rack and my memory. Me being brought up mostly in the city this book gave me a glimpse if the tranquility of Village life, giving each individuals in the story a different and interesting characters, and even giving Non living characters life (You feel that the Bus is actually playing a character in the book, Where the bus even plays the part of a Clock, How conductors and postmans in gorus / villages wre treated at the time.....). The book easily transforms us into this interesting village. Although my exposure to Kannada Books is not even a handful, I could easily consider Gorur's story telling strengths in Kannada to be as good a Jeffery archer in English.

Rapid growth of Wireless Communication in the 20th Century, Can we expect a “wire” free world by 2025

From the beginning of the 20th Century we have witnessed Wireless Technologies transforming our life. Still in the early years of this century and technology having already developed so rapidly, Possibilities being Limitless and Rapid level of Development and User Adaptation I wouldn’t be surprised to see a “Wire” free world by the year 2050 or even 2025.

In the 19th Century Wireless communication was mostly limited to Radio’s (Commercial  Channels, HAMs, essential Services, etc ), Cordless Phones and Wireless gaming. But during the last decade we have seen technologies like Bluetooth , Wifi etc which are generic and technologies that can be moulded to suit each individual needs. For example Bluetooth can be used in a Handsfree and the same chip in the device can be used to send Print Signals to a printer or transfer Files to another device. This ability to be “Multipurpose” and the ability to use the same technology / device and Chipset in a number of different types of Devices has helped enormously to fuel the growth in the last few years.

Numerous heavy weights Philips, HP and many others have implemented and brought to the market products that extensively use wireless technologies and are being actively promoted. For many companies where “convergence” is the key and wireless communication cannot be far behind. Most day to day appliance and accessories have become wireless right from our computer mouse’s, Printers, Home and Office networks (Why even public internet access points), WiMax Communications Channels, HeadPhones (both Mobile and Stereo), DTH or Satellite TV, and many more.

The best thing is that we have so many technologies from Bluetooth to Wifi(b/g/n) to WiMax and Satellite Links  which can easily be used in numerous appliances for numerous uses. There is presently enough technology I believe to make everything Wireless in this world only Adaptation or Implementation being needed.

Only thing I thought would not be possible to transmit through a wireless medium was electricity. For example take a Personnel Computer (PC) anything from Mouse cable, VGA to Printer and Audio can be made wireless with Today technologies. But what about Electricity, The power cord running from the Power Socket to your house. Why the power lines running from the grid (or further) to the CPU. If only we could make that Wireless ?  and guess what  “There are already people who have had promising results in making it possible” and there is a whole Wikepedia page dedicated to that. And project WiTricity a project by the MIT students aim at achieving the same.

The advent of Netbooks

Netbooks are small portable computers similar to Notebooks, but denotes less costlier less powerful devices used basically for surfing the net and word processing. Wiktionary defines netbooks as “An economical notebook computer” but there is more to it than just being economical. Although the name was coined to represent one of Psion’s Product Line it was recently re-introduced by Intel to describe a category of laptops based on its Atom Rage of processor. These Computing Devices turned out to be Low Cost, Small Size, Less Weight yet adequately powerful.

There are mainly three reasons why netbooks have become so popular these days

1.    With huge developments in semiconductors and introduction of newer and more powerful meaner machines, the Gamers are of course happy. But most of today’s users don’t require so much processing power.  I believe that if we were to make a survey today of all computers brought in the last 1 year we would find that we use only 20% of the Processing power available in our PCs our routine activities. Most users use their laptops for surfing the net, checking mails, Word processing, Accounting and those general activities which don’t require so much of computing power. Therefore netbooks are a Ideal choice for them.
2.    We are humans….  Most of us always worried of what image we project.  We go in for better laptops because you don’t want to send out a bad signal carrying around a 10 year old laptop or a bulky old styled one. We just don’t want others to think we are misers.  In the last few years we have seen laptops becoming small and compact. And we have seen smaller laptops becoming more trendy and Costlier. “Small is in“. Now people don’t mind carrying these small trendy netbooks (aren’t they cute ?) and with more and more people adopting netbooks they have become the way of life in many sectors.
3.    With us in a economic recession, potential laptop buyers whose uses are in line with the above believe that its better to cut costs and buy netbooks which fully meets their requirements and save the rest, Every dollar / euro / dirham / rupee  counts in these times of cash crunch. It’s a common known fact that people think twice before spending and save more in times of recession and buying a netbook in lieu of a full fledged notebook are a really good way to start.

Buying a Netbook: When you are buying a netbook a Ideal price arrange is around $300 and look out for products that have a Lower end economical processor like the Atom , Battery life but do not compromise on Quality. Some good models to look out for would be ASUS EEE PC, Acer Aspire One, Dell Mini 9 and Lenova Ideapad S10. A good comparisons sheet is available here .

In today’s world everyone right from who’s who of the Industry to the bottommost person in the ladder has a Website or at least a blog.  This article is for those who have been left out of the race. Every company needs a website to promote their work, to spread their word around. Similarly every person needs to have a space online to promote themselves and their work, Spread their messages, Share their photos and articles or just because his or her friend has one. Now every one is a part of the Socail Networking bandwagon and getting yourself a own Website is a good way to move forward and go beyond social networking sites. A good way to start of with is to have a personnel website , Share photos, Blogs and Articles and other tit bits.

a.    Get a Hosting: Getting a hosting is as simple as buying a item off amazon. There are numerous Hosting Services and Providers available, Its easy to get lost. First decide whether you would like to use PHP / Ruby etc ( Linux Host will do) or .net. (Windows Hosting). Like wise choose a hosting that suits you both technically and  financially, As a bigginer I would recommend DreamHost, HostGator and Hostdepartment.
b.    Domain: Now you have a space on the World Wide Web, But how do people get there, You need a Address, What we need to do is get yourself a Domain , Consider getting a domain as getting a Address or a Number plate or even a telephone number. Something like www.firstnamelastname.com
c.    Next is top start you work on the website, and the best solution is to start of with a Blogging engine or a Content Management System (CMS). For a beginner wordpress is a good start to make yourself a wonderful blog.  However to have more its always better to use CMS, One of the best CMS being Joomla. Installation being a breeze this becomes a easy step (all you need to know is the database details from your host) also some of the hosts have a Auto installer including Dreamhost mentioned above (One Click Installer)  find a good manual here.
